The House Of Peroni: Master Class with Haizhen Wang

If you have been following my fan page on facebook you would have known about such events like The House of Peroni. In the month of July The House is hosting an array of art, food, and fashion, basically the Italian lifestyle. You can walk into the rooms and see the sculptures, photography, and art. Drink and eat on the roof garden. As well as attend master classes they are holding from fashion, food, drink mixing and DJing?

I went to the Concept to Catwalk hosted by Haizhen Wang. The winner of the Fashion Fringe award 2012, and with his own label launched in 2010.

He talked about how he goes from the idea to the sketches to the making of a pattern, and in that 2hr master class, little did I know I was cutting out paper and learning about bust points, and how to make a pattern, and darts, to pinning on a template on mannequin.

I might be going to another one next Sunday. Check out their website for more information and events. Its something different to do and if you miss this month, they will be back in November.

Haul: Greek Shopping VieStyles

As every trip I try to do some what I like to think as country inspired shopping. Buy things you can not get in the UK and things that can be used here. Bets are you like it when people say where did you get that? knowing that they would have to travel themselves to get it! and you will always have something that wont eventually make the bin or collect dust.

In Lindos you can find lots of jewellery, clothes and home wear. It is slightly cheaper in Rhodes, But the market here for these types of items seem of a better choice for home wear at least. When at markets always shop around, most hidden ones tend to be cheaper and if your lucky hidden streets with hidden shops have hidden treasures!

I collect hanging lanterns to create a light piece in the corner of my room... So here is what I got for €16.50. A good luck ceramic hand painted with Rhodes Greece 2013 discreetly inked at the bottom.

In Rhodes I bought jewellery. I already have an evil eye bracelet given to me, they have been fashionable for a few years now but also a tad superstitious. This came in different colours and you can tie it as a necklace or anklet.

Old town they say is more expensive then the new. But if your only buying things like magnets buy them back in the supermarkets. You can also find cheap bracelets there.

If your looking for something hand made then yes... you cant buy that at the supermarket.

These are hand made silver, gold plated.. and very Greek.. Square is meant to be good luck and circles are long life. Each one is different as they are hand made. Around €10 -€13 each

They also sell fur in Rhodes...

Finally just to show you what jewellery I wore on the beach....

Greece: Rhodes Sun Sea & Ancient Cities

Did you know the town and island are both called Rhodes? There I was trying to find the name of the  island thinking it might be different.

Away on my own for 4 nights and stayed at Amaryllis Apartments on a half board basis (even though yes it does have its own self catering apartment). I booked it cause its on the beach and there was no pool. I don't see the point of a pool on holiday when you can be on the beach which is why you leave London!

I was told it was has not been a busy season for local business, that there is not as much tourist. I couldn't have been more happy about where I picked to go for a woman to be alone on holiday.  It was safe and easy to get around and the people are friendly and helpful.

Lindos

My base was in Lardos. Not to busy with a handful of shops and not that far from Lindos. It costs €1.60 to get a bus from Lardos to Lindos and buses are every half hour, travel time around 20mins if that.

The locals say get off the main path and get lost in the streets. I tried, I did, but you always managed to go round in circles as it all meets you back to the main square or to the start of the ascend to the acropolis.

The Acropolis is not as wow as going to ancient ruins like in Egypt. But they are restoring it and the view at the top is worth it. You have to at least say you have been up there! I was thinking the ancient Greeks were not afraid of heights or dieing of heat stroke.

If your going to eat anywhere in Lindos go to Mythos. Its right above the square, stairs are on the side of the information building. The food is great and the mojito went down nice and smooth. The view is WOW, service was polite and helpful, all fabulous and relaxing.

Rhodes

"Rodos" is around 1.5hrs away from Lardos on the bus costing €5.50. Its the main port and biggest city. If you want to shop old and new as well as see sights this is where you need to be. But for me it is very much a city, I can only assume this is what Athens would be like, a hub of tourist walking around and being pulled into the restaurants situated outside old town looking out to the harbour.

I was only here for 2 things. To see the site of what was one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world. The site of Colossus, was a statue of a man straddling the port, with ships sailing between his legs, and what was said to have inspired The Statue of Liberty.

Old town. The city behind the medieval walls steeped in history. A hub of tourist shopping and museums. Its actually a little cheaper here in Rhodes then it was in Lindos for tourist shopping, and you do have a bit more to choose from. But then again you find better house and ceramic items in Lindos.

Tips & Details:

Book a transfer coach on your way to and from hotel and airport as the buses have loads of stops and plus the transfer would be cheaper and gets you straight there!

Amaryllis Apartments is where I stayed. Room was clean, has hair dryer, TV and AC. It's rear gates open to the beach and their beach restaurant serves filling portions, great service and even better food, with a view of the beach as you eat.

Buses are every half hour and they have a break period in the afternoon. So maybe note down the times it departs as you don't want to wait in the heat for an hour if you miss it.
